A Message from Director Jeff Acheson
"I believe that teamwork and success are important values that we can utilize to strengthen our band program each year. Success is an important part of education, and I feel that the students want to be successful as well. I know that we can accomplish these amazing things if we work together."
Concert Band
This ensemble will begin at the end of marching season and will perform styles of music which are from the classical and popular genres. There will be a tremendous amount of exposure to different styles of music in order to ensure that sight reading, practice techniques and individual musicianship will be learned by everyone.
Jazz Band
Jazz band rehearses three days a week before school throughout the school year. The students learn several different styles of jazz including Swing, Bebop, Cool, West Coast, and some New Orleans style. The jazz band performs approximately 5-7 times during the school year, including one competition and a tour. The jazz band is a separate class from regular band and is not required for any student. The jazz band is the most elite group of band musicians and one must audition to be a member of this ensemble.
Marching Band
The marching band is part of the fall curriculum and is open to all students in every grade level. The SHHS marching band plays for all home and specified away football games, participates in parades, competitions, pep rallies and more. Marching band is very exciting and leadership opportunities exist for students to become section leaders as well as drum mayors.
