BOOK WAREHOUSE BOOK FAIR!
The SHMS Library or Instructional Media Center (IMC) houses various types of educational equipment and materials. There are also over 14,500 books and magazines for educational and leisure reading. The media center has flexible scheduling which allows students and staff to use the library at any time. The IMC is completely automated and can be accessed via the Internet by clicking on this link. There are four student access computers, two circulation computers and one administration computer in the library. Seating capacity is about sixty.
The IMC serves more than 550 patrons and circulates, on the average, 45 items per patron during the school year. Each year the library handles over 25,000 transactions. All six-grade students come to the library at least once a week, usually on Thursdays, with their language arts teachers in order to check out books and for instruction and book talks. The library is also open each day right before school, during homeroom and after school for students to check out books. Teachers often send students to the library to check out a book, to research topics, to work on projects in groups, to study, to take make up tests or to read.
Check out information
Students are allowed to have three books checked out at a time but are given special permission to check out more, if needed, for research. Reference materials and magazines may be checked out for three days and books may be checkout for three weeks. Students may renew items once, either online or in the library.
