Young Author Honored at Reception

Spring Hill Elementary School (SHES) students recently competed in
the 17th Annual Young Writers Contest, sponsored by Reading Reptile
and the Johnson County Library. The entries were judged by nationally
published illustrators and authors of children's books. At a
reception held on Feb. 19th, the winning entries were announced by
the judges, including a story by SHES second grader Lauren Brinkman!
Her story, The Three Shiny Fish, was chosen by renowned
author Lisa Campbell Ernst as her favorite winning entry. Ernst not
only read the story but created a wonderful illustration of the
story (pictured above). In March, the first and second graders who
participated in the contest will have
the opportunity to attend the 14th Annual DNA Children's Literature
Festival and hear from authors of premier children's books.
